Mumbai, April 30 (NationPress) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated on Wednesday that the Union government's choice to implement a caste-based census will facilitate the development of more comprehensive policies aimed at the elevation and overall progress of the underprivileged.
“I genuinely appreciate Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this landmark decision to include caste enumeration in the census process. This initiative will undoubtedly assist in crafting more profound policies for the upliftment of the underprivileged and their holistic growth. The decision by PM Modi's government to conduct a caste census is truly historic,” he asserted.
The Chief Minister criticized the Congress party for years of political maneuvering, failing to acknowledge the demand for a caste-based census.
“However, PM Modi has recognized the need for a caste-based census, signaling the dawn of a new era of social justice. I extend my heartfelt thanks to PM Modi for this,” he expressed.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also praised the central government's pivotal decision to conduct a caste-based census, describing it as a crucial step towards achieving true social justice in India.
He noted that the vision of a fair and inclusive society, advocated by Babasaheb Ambedkar, is now closer to becoming a reality.
“PM Modi has shown remarkable courage by initiating a caste-based census for the first time since independence. The Shiv Sena fully supports this courageous and community-focused initiative,” he stated.
Shinde emphasized that the data gathered from the caste census will lead to more effective implementation of welfare and development programs, ensuring that benefits reach the most marginalized sections of society.
“This initiative embodies the true essence of the Constitution. It represents a significant advancement towards equality, inclusion, and empowerment for all citizens,” he remarked.
He further criticized the Congress party, accusing it of undermining the quest for social equity for decades.
“For years, Congress made empty promises regarding caste-based data but lacked the willpower to act. They have treated communities as mere voting blocs, which is why they never took decisive action,” he stated.
“Those who parade around with red notebooks and slogans about ‘upholding the Constitution’ are now exposed. Their inaction over the years speaks volumes compared to their theatrics. This decision illustrates that Prime Minister Modi is dedicated to justice, not just politics,” he claimed.
NCP leader and founder of Samata Parishad, Chhagan Bhujbal, met with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and expressed gratitude to him and the central government for the decision to carry out the caste-based census.
In his response, Bhujbal remarked, “The demand for a caste-based census by the Akhil Bharatiya Mahatma Phule Samata Parishad has been persistent since 1992. This demand has finally been met following the Union Cabinet's decision to conduct the caste-based census.”
