New Delhi, Jan 8 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended officials from the Revenue Department – including a Sub-Registrar and a Reader – along with two private individuals while they were allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a complainant, according to an official announcement made on Thursday.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sub-Registrar from the Revenue Department in Kashmere Gate, Pankaj Kumar Yadav, Reader Ravinder Dabas, and private citizens Ashish alias Nitin and Sunil, as per the CBI statement.
The case was initiated by the CBI on Wednesday against the accused and other unidentified individuals.
Allegations indicate that these public servants, in collusion with the private individuals, demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 in exchange for facilitating a sale deed/registry for the complainant.
They also threatened that failure to pay the demanded sum would result in objections being raised, and the client’s documents/sale deed would be marked with a red seal and forwarded to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
On January 7, the CBI executed a sting operation and apprehended a private individual in the act of soliciting and accepting the bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant, in a criminal conspiracy with the other co-accused.
According to the CBI, all individuals involved have been taken into custody.
This incident follows close on the heels of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's directive to suspend the Kapashera Sub-Registrar and Mehrauli Tehsildar, who were allegedly implicated in corrupt activities within the Revenue Department.
On December 29, actions were taken against these Revenue Department officials following a series of complaints and serious allegations of corruption directed at them, as relayed by the Chief Minister’s Office.
Additionally, the Chief Minister ordered the revocation of a deed writer's license stationed in Kapashera.
Chief Minister Gupta has made it clear that the Delhi government's stance is unyielding—there will be zero tolerance for corruption at any level.
She emphasized that officers engaged in public services are expected to be honest, sensitive, and accountable.
"If an officer is found to be negligent or involved in corruption, they have no right to remain in service," she stated.
