Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 11 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken a bold step by apprehending one of its own inspectors in Delhi in connection with a bribery scandal, underscoring the agency's unwavering commitment to combatting corruption.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the CBI confirmed that Inspector Deepak Phalswal, who was stationed in Delhi, was detained on March 10 after allegations surfaced that he solicited a bribe from a private citizen.
The CBI initiated an investigation after receiving a complaint asserting that the inspector had requested illegal compensation from the individual in return for not pursuing a complaint reportedly lodged against him with the CBI.
In response to the claims, the agency commenced an internal inquiry, leading to the inspector's arrest.
Authorities also executed searches at the accused’s home, during which they uncovered numerous incriminating documents and electronic records.
The detained officer was presented before the relevant court, which granted the CBI a two-day police custody period for additional questioning.
The agency remarked that this action aligns with its dedication to uphold its fundamental principles of integrity, impartiality, and accountability, and reiterated its rigorous stance against corruption, even within its own members.
Investigations into the matter are currently ongoing.
Just last month, in a notable anti-corruption initiative, the CBI arrested two officials from the Food Corporation of India (FCI) in Chandausi, Uttar Pradesh, for soliciting and accepting bribes from a private company.
