New Delhi, July 9 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday detained an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) from the Delhi Police, stationed at Police Station Dwarka North, while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 35,000 from a complainant, according to an official statement.
The CBI initiated a case on Tuesday, July 8, against the ASI and a Head Constable based on claims that they had solicited an initial bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant.
“In exchange, they assured that the complainant and his associate would be permitted to operate a vegetable shop in a local market without any disruption,” the CBI statement detailed.
Moreover, they purportedly requested a monthly payment ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000.
“After discussions, the accused allegedly agreed to lower their demand to Rs 35,000 upfront along with Rs 2,000 per person each month thereafter,” the CBI added.
Upon receiving the complaint, the CBI conducted a sting operation and caught the ASI in the act while accepting the bribe. He was swiftly taken into custody. The investigation is ongoing.
Earlier in March, the CBI apprehended a head constable and a constable from the Delhi Police of South West Delhi’s Sagarpur police station for allegedly soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs 2.5 lakh from a complainant.
In October of the previous year, the CBI apprehended an inspector and a sub-inspector from the Burari police station for reportedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh. The agency arrested Sub-Inspector Bhupesh Kumar while he was receiving part of a total bribe demand of Rs 1.5 crore on behalf of an inspector who was also arrested.
In November last year, the CBI took into custody a Delhi Police constable from the Anti-Narcotics Task Force for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh to avoid implicating an individual in a case.
