New Delhi, April 15 (NationPress) An Assistant Sub-Inspector with the Delhi Police has been taken into custody for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from a retired colleague seeking to conduct construction work on the terrace of his residence in Model Town, north Delhi, an official disclosed on Tuesday.
ASI Sudesh Kumar Yadav, stationed at Police Station Model Town, was caught red-handed while receiving the bribe from a retired Inspector, residing in Mahendru Enclave, by the Vigilance Unit.
The complainant reported that he was persistently pressured for a payment of Rs 4 lakh by ASI Sudesh in exchange for authorization to proceed with repair work on his home.
On April 14, the house owner lodged a complaint with the Vigilance Unit, informing them that the ASI, accompanied by a beat officer, visited his construction site and demanded a halt to the work.
According to the complaint, he also approached the SHO of Police Station Model Town regarding the work stoppage, but was instructed to meet with ASI Sudesh instead.
The retired homeowner provided the Vigilance Unit with a pen drive containing audio recordings of his discussions with various police officials at Police Station Model Town, pertaining to the bribe request.
Following the information received by the Vigilance Unit, a trap was set. Around 6.30 p.m. on Monday, ASI Sudesh summoned the complainant to his office on the first floor of Police Station Model Town and insisted on the bribe.
After negotiations, he accepted the Rs 2 lakh bribe from the complainant. A Vigilance raiding team, which had been monitoring the situation from a distance, apprehended ASI Sudesh Kumar Yadav and seized the bribe amount from him.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Vigilance) stated that the ASI was presented in court, and the pen drive provided by the complainant has been forwarded for forensic analysis.
