Bhubaneswar, May 22 (NationPress) The Odisha Vigilance Department apprehended a police officer in Cuttack district on Thursday for allegedly accepting a bribe to resolve a conflict between a complainant and a fellow villager within the jurisdiction of Tigiria police station.
The arrested officer, Pradeep Kumar Behera, served as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) at the Tigiria police station and was caught red-handed.
According to a senior Vigilance official, "Both parties involved in the dispute registered counter FIRs, which led to a compromise. However, following the agreement, ASI Behera sought a bribe from the complainant, threatening to take action on the counter FIR against him. Left with no options, the complainant approached the Vigilance authorities for assistance."
On Thursday, the Vigilance Department executed a carefully planned operation, successfully catching Behera while he was accepting the bribe from the complainant.
In the aftermath of the operation, simultaneous searches were conducted at Behera's official residence at Dhenkanal Town police station and his native village of Nutanapatana Sahi.
