New Delhi, Nov 13 (NationPress) In a significant move against corruption, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended a Postal Inspector and an Assistant from the main post office located in the Saraikela district headquarters of Jharkhand while they were caught in the act of accepting a bribe.
The agency seized cash and numerous incriminating documents during this operation. Currently, CBI officials are interrogating both suspects.
According to insider information, the CBI acted upon a complaint alleging that the Postal Inspector and the Assistant at the Saraikela Post Office had solicited a bribe from Ranjan Das, who had been selected for the position of Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS).
The officials reportedly demanded ₹20,000 in return for proceeding with his joining process. Upon receiving the complaint, the CBI corroborated the details and orchestrated a trap, successfully arresting the two while they accepted the bribe.
Post-arrest, the CBI executed searches at both the post office premises and the residences of the accused officers.
During these searches, officials uncovered cash, official documents, and materials related to suspected financial transactions, all of which have been confiscated for further investigation.
The agency is also looking into whether other postal employees or officials were implicated in this bribery scheme. Initial findings indicate that previous complaints regarding irregularities in recruitment processes and document verification at the post office had surfaced.
Both suspects are currently undergoing questioning at the CBI’s regional office in Ranchi.
Once the formalities are completed, they will be presented before a special CBI court.
This incident marks the second operation by the CBI in Jharkhand within a week.
Just five days prior, the agency’s Anti-Corruption Branch arrested Deepak Giri, an HR officer with Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), in Khilari for allegedly demanding a bribe of ₹50,000.
Giri reportedly sought ₹1.5 lakh from complainant Roshan Kumar in exchange for securing a compassionate appointment following his father's death earlier this year.
