Chandigarh, Nov 7 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has initiated an FIR against the former Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Mohammad Mustafa and his ex-legislator spouse Razia Sultana, among others, in connection to the mysterious death of their son, Aqil Akhtar, who passed away in Haryana’s Panchkula on October 16.
The FIR also implicates Aqil's wife and sister, citing charges of murder and criminal conspiracy. The family contends that his demise was due to a drug overdose.
A complaint lodged by their neighbor, Shamshuddin Chaudhary, raised suspicions of foul play, leading to the murder investigation.
The case was initially filed by Haryana Police following Chaudhary’s allegations from Malerkotla town in Punjab and was subsequently handed over to the CBI on the state government's advice.
Chaudhary referred to a video released by Aqil on August 27, where he expressed fears regarding strained family relations and concerns for his safety.
In a 16-minute video, Aqil discussed severe family conflicts, claiming his life was at risk. He suggested that his mother and sister were involved in a scheme to harm him or frame him for a crime.
Aqil also detailed experiences of being forcefully detained, sent to a rehabilitation center, and robbed of his business earnings. “They have taken everything from me,” he stated in the video.
A CBI representative confirmed that an FIR was filed on Thursday against the four individuals under Sections 103 (1) and 61 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The CBI noted that the FIR was registered due to allegations surrounding the unnatural death of Aqil Akhtar, son of Mohammad Mustafa and Razia Sultana, who lived in Panchkula.
“The FIR was initiated based on claims of ongoing family discord between the deceased and his relatives,” the spokesperson elaborated, indicating that a specialized team would conduct the investigation.
The CBI is currently gathering digital and forensic evidence and will interrogate those named in the FIR. The agency is also scrutinizing the events leading up to Aqil’s death, including the family disputes outlined in the complaint.
