The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday, 26 May intensified its probe into the alleged suspicious death of model-turned-actress Twisha Sharma, questioning her family members at the Army Cantonment area in Bhopal after conducting a detailed inspection of the crime scene at accused Samarth Singh's residence. The federal agency formally assumed charge of the investigation late on Sunday, days after Twisha's family demanded a CBI inquiry.

Crime Scene Inspection

CBI investigators visited the matrimonial home where Twisha Sharma allegedly died on 12 May, with the family claiming she was driven to suicide over dowry harassment by her in-laws. The team was observed closely examining the rooftop area of the building and recording detailed observations, as part of efforts to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the young woman's death.

Officials spent considerable time at the residence, scrutinising multiple sections of the house before proceeding to the Army Cantonment area, where Twisha's family has been staying since 13 May, after travelling from Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

Samarth Singh's Custody and Interrogation

According to reports, the CBI was likely to interrogate Twisha's husband Samarth Singh later on Tuesday at Katara Hills Police Station. Singh, who was remanded to seven days' police custody on Saturday, had previously been taken to the crime scene by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Madhya Pradesh Police on Sunday night — shortly before the case was transferred to the CBI.

What the State Police Said

Madhya Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Kailash Makwana defended the state police's handling of the case ahead of the transfer. 'State police, especially Bhopal Police, carried out the investigation as per established rules and procedures. Since the kin of the deceased had demanded it, we had agreed to hand over the case to the CBI,' Makwana told reporters in Bhopal on Tuesday.

Scope of the CBI Probe

The CBI is now expected to re-examine all evidence gathered so far, including forensic findings, witness statements, and digital records. The case has drawn wide public attention across Madhya Pradesh and the country, with many calling for swift accountability. Notably, the handover from state police to the CBI within days of the incident underscores the political and public pressure surrounding the case.

The investigation remains at a critical juncture, with the agency's findings on the rooftop inspection and the forthcoming interrogation of Samarth Singh expected to shape the direction of the case.
