New Delhi, Feb 26 (NationPress) The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) clarified on Wednesday, strongly denying the assertions that Punjabi has been eliminated from its roster of regional language subjects for Class 10.
Earlier, claims regarding the exclusion of Punjabi from the Class 10 subjects list stirred significant unrest in Punjab, inciting condemnation from political parties like the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Congress, and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
In response to these allegations, CBSE issued a statement asserting, "No subject has been removed from Class 10. All subjects, including Punjabi, will remain unchanged."
The controversy arose following CBSE's announcement of a draft policy on Tuesday concerning the proposed Dual Board Exams for Class 10 starting in the 2025-26 academic year as part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The board made this draft policy public for feedback on Tuesday. In light of this, AAP, Congress, and SAD have voiced concerns over the absence of Punjabi as a subject in the draft policy.
According to CBSE's Controller of Examinations, Sanyam Bhardwaj, there will be no alterations to the current list of subjects offered by the board.
"All subjects currently available will persist as before. These subjects will be included in both stages of the board examination," Bhardwaj reiterated.
CBSE clarified that the subject list included in the draft is merely indicative.
On Tuesday evening, CBSE released the draft for conducting board exams twice annually. This draft of the new examination system is accessible for review on the official CBSE website.
All stakeholders, including schools, teachers, parents, students, and the general public, are encouraged to provide feedback on the proposed policy.
CBSE mentioned that the draft policy has been crafted following extensive discussions and is now available on the CBSE website.
Stakeholders can submit their feedback on the draft policy until March 9, 2025. The feedback will be analyzed, and the policy will be finalized later.
CBSE has announced significant changes in the Class 10 board examination system for the upcoming year.
As per the new regulations, Class 10 board examinations will commence for the first time on February 15 annually, with the initial phase concluding by March 6. The second phase of the board exam is slated to occur from May 5 to May 20.
This new system presents students with the opportunity to retake the exam at their discretion. Conversely, those opting for a single attempt can choose that option.
