Shimla, May 30 (NationPress) Himachal Pradesh's Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu stated on Friday that the ceasefire agreement with Pakistan was declared without prior consultation with the armed forces.
During a tribute event for our courageous soldiers at Jai Hind Sabha, Sukhu expressed, "Today we honor the sacrifices made by our valiant soldiers who have given their lives for our nation."
He recounted his experience visiting Sharchi village in the Tirthan Valley, where he was hosted by former soldier Subedar Major Anoop Ram.
During their discussions, Sukhu and Anoop Ram reminisced about the 1971 India-Pakistan war, highlighting how the address by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi fueled patriotic spirit and uplifted the morale of the Indian Army.
This war had significant implications, leading to the division of Pakistan, with Shimla later being the venue for the historic Simla Agreement, as noted by the Chief Minister.
He emphasized that the bravery of Himachal Pradesh soldiers is unparalleled.
"Our soldiers have always been ready to make the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Himachali soldiers have the distinction of receiving four Param Vir Chakras, showcasing the state’s legacy of bravery and sacrifice," he added.
The Chief Minister also referenced the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, asserting that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was the first to extend full support to the Union government in combating terrorism.
"The citizens and government of Himachal Pradesh have consistently supported the Indian Armed Forces," he stated.
"Our brave soldiers provided a strong response to the terrorists. However, the Union government announced a ceasefire without consulting the three armed forces. It is alarming that this declaration was made via social media by a third country, contrasting sharply with the decisive leadership of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who prioritized national security above all else," he added.
He also acknowledged the immense sacrifices made by Congress leaders for the nation.
"Former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi sacrificed their lives for India’s unity and integrity," he remarked.
