Bengaluru, May 16 (NationPress) The ground handling operations of the Turkish firm Celebi Aviation have been halted at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. This decision was made following a directive from the Central government, as stated in the official announcement by Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL).
According to the statement, “In adherence to a directive from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), government of India, BIAL has shifted its ground handling operations from Celebi Airport Services India Pvt Ltd to other established service providers to ensure uninterrupted operations and stability.”
“We are actively managing the transition in conjunction with all relevant aviation stakeholders and governmental authorities. Our commitment is to ensure smooth operations during this transition period,” BIAL added.
Sources indicate that over 500 staff members have been reassigned to other agencies. Services have been redistributed among various companies, as per airport officials.
The Turkey-based Celebi Aviation was responsible for managing approximately 15 international and cargo flights at Bengaluru's International Airport.
Authorities revealed that operations previously offered by the Turkish aviation firm were handed over to other air service companies late Thursday night. The company employed around 500 personnel, all of whom have now been reassigned to different firms.
Celebi Airport Services India operates under the umbrella of Turkey-based Celebi, which was active in nine Indian airports including Mumbai, Delhi, Cochin, Kannur, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Goa, Ahmedabad, and Chennai.
This suspension comes as a reaction to Turkey's support for Pakistan during its military actions against India following 'Operation Sindoor'. The BCAS revoked the security clearance of Celebi Airport Services India Pvt Ltd, effectively halting their ground handling services at nine airports, citing national security as the rationale.
The order was issued shortly after Turkey expressed its support for Islamabad and criticized India’s 'Operation Sindoor', which was conducted in response to a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam.
Additionally, the drones employed by Pakistan to target Indian territories and military installations were reportedly sourced from Turkey.
Notably, over 125 leading trade figures from across India convened on Friday to declare a boycott of all trade and commercial interactions with Turkey, including travel and tourism.
The trade representatives also urged the Indian film industry to refrain from filming in Turkey.
This decision was made during a National Conference of Trade Leaders organized by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) in New Delhi, with participants from 24 states.
The unified Indian trading community perceives Turkey's backing of Pakistan as a significant betrayal, especially considering India's previous humanitarian and diplomatic support to Turkey.
