This initiative is aimed at ensuring that farmers cultivating these crops receive higher earnings.
During a meeting held here, he discussed procurement logistics with the relevant state Agriculture Ministers and provided crucial instructions to the NAFED, the NCCF, and state officials.
The Union Minister acknowledged that the procurement of moong and urad would impose a considerable financial burden on the Central government. However, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government remains dedicated to ensuring that farmers benefit as intended.
He stressed the importance of executing the procurement process efficiently, highlighting that direct procurement from farmers will minimize middlemen's influence and guarantee that the actual benefits reach the farmers.
Chouhan directed officials to utilize the latest technologies for effective farmer registration and suggested increasing the number of procurement centres if necessary, ensuring the entire process is conducted in a fair and transparent manner.
Expressing his concerns regarding reports of irregularities in storage, Chouhan urged state ministers and officials to take decisive action to address these issues. He reassured the Agriculture Minister of Uttar Pradesh that the central government will strive to act in the best interests of farmers.
The meeting was attended by Madhya Pradesh’s Minister for Farmers’ Welfare and Agriculture Development, Aidal Singh Kansana, Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi, Union Agriculture Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi, and other senior officials.
