Jaipur, May 30 (NationPress) Union Mines Secretary V.L. Kantha Rao highlighted the unwavering dedication of the Central government to fortifying the mining sector by fostering private sector involvement in exploration, operations, processing, and recycling.
He pointed out the increasing global need for critical minerals, stating that private experts are now collaborating with both central and state mineral exploration agencies to expedite advancements.
In a meeting held in Jaipur with Principal Secretary Mines, T. Ravikant, and other stakeholders, Kantha Rao mentioned that 35 private exploration agencies are now registered with the National Mineral Exploration Trust (NMET), with 20 agencies already active, including projects in Rajasthan.
Kantha Rao commended Rajasthan as the most progressive state in the mining sector, acknowledging its success in auctioning the largest number of major mineral blocks.
He reiterated the launch of the National Critical Mineral Mission aimed at enhancing research and development, with NMET providing financial backing for exploration, processing, and recycling initiatives.
To mitigate delays in operationalizing auctioned mines, Kantha Rao emphasized the necessity for improved coordination among stakeholders and a reduction in procedural barriers.
He encouraged organizations such as GSI, MECL, IBM, DGMS, and pertinent state agencies to conduct workshops and seminars to keep industry participants updated with recent developments. T. Ravikant, Principal Secretary of Rajasthan’s Mines and Geology Department, revealed that Rajasthan has auctioned 88 major mineral blocks, leading the nation in this regard.
He showcased the state’s proactive stance, which includes a new mineral policy, M-sand policy, and streamlined regulations that are delivering favorable results. Director of Mines, Deepak Tanwar, provided updates on the auction blocks and their development through a comprehensive presentation. Senior officials from both central and state governments were present at the meeting.
During the discussions, Neemkathana MLA Suresh Modi advocated for resolving issues within the mining sector. Representatives from the Mining Association proposed granting industry status to mining, revitalizing dormant leases by categorizing them as sick units, ensuring DMFT funds are utilized in mining-affected areas, establishing a land bank, addressing the concerns of small mine owners, and updating land records to reflect ongoing mining activities.
The meeting also featured in-depth discussions with auction mine representatives to hasten their operational rollout.
