New Delhi, July 14 (NationPress) The Indian government is set to unveil new directives aimed at fostering the growth of first-time exporters and enhancing access to new markets and products, according to Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal. He emphasized the collaboration between the Ministry and local districts to promote the One District, One Product (ODOP) initiative, facilitating the entry of new exporters into diverse markets.
Minister Goyal noted that a total of 773 districts across various states have played a pivotal role in India's economic success story.
“India stands as an oasis amidst global turmoil and is the fastest growing large economy in the world today,” he stated, predicting that India will ascend to become the third largest economy by 2027.
He highlighted the nation’s rich variety of products that can elevate India’s status on the global stage.
Goyal provided examples such as Wayanad coffee, Ratnagiri mangoes, and Pulwama saffron, which exemplify the diverse range of products that can enhance India’s international reputation.
He described the One District, One Product initiative as a unique program, noting that no other country has implemented a comparable scheme, as each district showcases a distinct legacy.
Goyal also mentioned that it may be necessary to recognize two products under ODOP in certain instances, indicating that local products are increasingly gaining global recognition.
The minister revealed that 64 out of 87 products fall under the Industrial Investment Promotion Policy. He congratulated Bihar’s 38 districts for achieving 100% coverage of products under ODOP, highlighting the state's emphasis on this initiative.
He asserted that all products are integrated within the state’s economic framework and included in the industrial policy, categorizing Bihar as Category A in this context. He urged citizens to commit to making ODOP a driving force for prosperity in their districts through their products.
