Chandigarh, Feb 4 (NationPress) The Director General of NCC has chosen two NCC cadets, Jahan Kukkal and Padam Namgail, from the 2 Chandigarh Battalion NCC to partake in a groundbreaking mountaineering journey to Mount Everest, the tallest peak on the planet.

This outstanding achievement highlights the cadets' unwavering determination, dedication, and tenacity. Both cadets have recently participated in a pre-Everest expedition at Mount Abi Gamin (7,335 m) and attended a winter training camp at the world’s highest battlefield, Siachen, at its base camp.

Cadet Jahan Kukkal has successfully completed an expedition to Mount Kang Yatse II, which stands at an altitude of 6,250 m. These experiences have equipped them for this ultimate challenge.

Colonel Paramjit Singh, Commanding Officer of 2 NCC Chandigarh Battalion, praised the cadets for their significant accomplishment, stating that the selection of Kukkal and Namgail for the imminent Mount Everest expedition exemplifies the NCC’s dedication to developing resilience and leadership in youth.

Their trek to Everest will not only mark a personal achievement but also serve as a source of pride for the entire NCC community and the nation, he added.

He also mentioned that this expedition acts as a source of inspiration for other young aspirants, showcasing the NCC’s proud legacy of nurturing courage, determination, and teamwork among its cadets.

The success of Kukkal and Namgail will pave the way for future generations of NCC cadets to chase their dreams and exceed their limits.

Last year, NCC’s Mountaineering Expedition Team, which included both Kukkal and Namgail, successfully reached the summit of Mt Abi Gamin. This peak, located in the Garhwal Himalayas at an elevation of 7,355 meters, served as a vital preparatory step for the NCC’s upcoming mission to conquer Mount Everest this year.

The team consisted of 34 cadets, six Officers, and 20 Permanent Instructors and Staff from various NCC Directorates nationwide, who took part in this demanding expedition. They faced four to five feet of snow but displayed remarkable perseverance, achieving a commendable altitude of around 7,000 meters.

This expedition emphasized the NCC’s commitment to instilling a spirit of adventure, leadership, and service to the Nation among its cadets. It marked the 88th NCC Cadets’ Mountaineering Expedition since 1970.

Mt Everest was first ascended by New Zealander Edmund Hillary and his guide Tenzing Norgay in 1953 and has since captivated climbers and mountaineers eager to reach the summit in the Himalayas.
