Jammu, July 15 (NationPress) Cadets of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) from Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh have made history by reaching the summit of Mount Everest.
According to Defence ministry spokesperson, Lt Colonel Suneel Bartwal, “In a moment of pride and glory for the nation, cadets from the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh (JK&L) Directorate achieved remarkable heights – literally – as they conquered the world’s highest peak during the NCC Mt Everest Expedition 2025.”
He stated that on 18 May 2025, Junior Under Officer Abida Afreen and Cadet Mohit Knathia, representing the JK&L Directorate, stood proudly at the summit of Mount Everest (8,848.86 m).
“Their brave ascent signifies a monumental achievement for the NCC and illustrates the unyielding spirit of the youth from the Union Territory. To celebrate this historic accomplishment, a memento was presented on behalf of Maj Gen Anupinder Bevli, VSM, ADG NCC JK&L Directorate, to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, by Group Commander NCC Srinagar on 14 July 2025,” he mentioned.
The Chief Minister extended his heartfelt congratulations to the cadets and commended their bravery and determination.
“Their extraordinary achievement is a shining example of what our youth can accomplish. This summit is not merely a personal victory but a representation of the limitless potential of J&K’s younger generation,” the official added.
He further mentioned that this success would act as a source of inspiration for thousands of NCC cadets and youth throughout the country.
During the meeting, significant discussions concerning the enhancement of NCC infrastructure and youth engagement in the region were also held.
This historic summit highlights the NCC’s mission to instill discipline, leadership, and a sense of adventure among India’s youth, particularly in challenging terrains like Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
NCC cadets have been performing multi-role duties at their young age as they aspire to either join the army or other professions dedicated to serving the nation.
