Itanagar, Nov 4 (NationPress) In a remarkable exhibition of bravery and resolve, Lieutenant General Gambhir Singh, the General Officer Commanding of the Gajraj Corps, initiated the expedition to Mount Kangto (7,042 m / 23,103 ft) in Arunachal Pradesh on Monday, as confirmed by officials.
According to Defence spokesman Lt Col Mahendra Rawat, this expedition consists of 18 courageous members of the Indian Army, who are embarking on a challenging journey to conquer one of the most demanding and least explored peaks of the Eastern Himalayas—Mount Kangto, which was last successfully ascended in 1930.
The team will face perilous icy ridges, glacial summits, and thin air at extreme elevations, exemplifying the determination, discipline, and unbreakable spirit that characterizes the Indian Army.
This mission reflects the Corps’ dedication to adventure, endurance, and excellence across one of the most rugged terrains in India.
This extraordinary project—“Josh in the Hearts, Summiting Mount Kangto!” serves as a tribute to the bravery and resilience of the soldiers of the Gajraj Corps and symbolizes the Indian Army’s unwavering spirit in overcoming challenges.
In a separate initiative, a team of officers from the Dao Warriors conducted a nationwide series of presentations on the Battle of Walong in schools and colleges located in Dimapur, Dibrugarh, Namsai, Delhi, Pune, and Mumbai throughout October and November.
The Defence spokesman noted that this initiative aims to enlighten and motivate the youth regarding the unmatched valor and significant sacrifices made by the brave soldiers of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles during the operations of 1962.
The presentations witnessed an enthusiastic turnout from students, who displayed profound patriotic spirit and eagerness to learn about the heroic defense of Walong, recognized as the sole counter-attack by Indian forces during the 1962 conflict.
In both Delhi and Mumbai, the presence of esteemed veterans sharing their firsthand experiences added substantial value and emotional resonance to the events.
This outreach initiative not only strengthened the civil-military bond but also served as a fitting homage to the courageous units that participated in the Battle of Walong and a solemn tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation, as stated by the spokesman.
