Chandigarh, July 24 (NationPress) On Thursday, Chandigarh's Chief Secretary Rajeev Verma convened a review meeting to evaluate the advancements and crucial developments of Chandigarh Power Distribution Ltd (CPDL) since it took over the city's electricity distribution on February 1.
The Chief Secretary urged the company to reduce power outages and guarantee a steady supply to prevent public inconvenience.
He expressed alarm over a recent seven-hour power interruption that impacted numerous sectors due to a busbar incident caused by moisture at the Sector 56 sub-station.
Company representatives clarified that an anti-hygroscopic paint had been used as a preventive measure against the monsoon, but it proved insufficient. They mentioned that dehumidifiers will now be utilized to avert such failures in the future.
During the session, the Chief Secretary was informed about several significant initiatives by CPDL aimed at enhancing the power infrastructure.
It was reported that three 20 MVA Power Transformers have been installed, along with the replacement of 28 distribution transformers to ensure a consistent electricity supply.
Moreover, comprehensive maintenance across all grid substations unlocked an additional 59 MVA capacity, allowing CPDL to meet the city’s peak demand of 465 MW.
The call center's capacity has been notably improved by increasing staff from 17 to 52 and expanding the number of call lines from 10 to 50.
Additionally, 49 complaint center executives and four supervisors have been assigned to expedite consumer complaint resolutions. The progress under the PM Surya Ghar–Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG-MBY) was also evaluated, alongside the significant challenges faced by CPDL and the support needed from the UT Administration.
The meeting was attended by Secretary of Engineering Prerna Puri, Chief Engineer C.B. Ojha, as well as senior officials from CPDL and representatives from the administration.
