New Delhi, July 29 (NationPress) Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi expressed strong disapproval of the government's handling of the Opposition's inquiries regarding Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam terror incident. She stated that it is “not only shameful but also heartbreaking” to have questioning in Parliament compared to “speaking in the language of Pakistan”.
During the significant debate in the Lok Sabha on Operation Sindoor, Chaturvedi remarked, “Today, citizens across the nation have numerous questions that require answers. We have been allocated 16 hours for discussion in the Lok Sabha, where both the ruling and opposition parties will have their say. However, the alarming issue is that each time we pose questions, we are labeled as speaking Pakistan's language. This is not just shameful; it's heartbreaking.”
Her comments were a direct response to Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, who had previously urged the Opposition, especially the Congress party, to refrain from remarks that could jeopardize national interests.
“I implore the opposition, particularly Congress, to avoid actions that could harm India's interests and refrain from using Pakistan's language. We must remain vigilant and honor the dignity of the Indian armed forces,” Rijiju stated.
Operation Sindoor, initiated following the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22 that resulted in 26 fatalities, has become a contentious issue in Parliament. The government presents it as a successful counter-terror measure led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while the Opposition raises alarms about potential security failures and calls for increased transparency.
In the Lok Sabha discussion on Monday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh opened with a strong warning directed at Pakistan.
He asserted that India would not hesitate to retaliate if provoked again. “Let this be an unmistakable warning to those who support terror. India will respond decisively to any act of aggression,” Singh declared, receiving enthusiastic applause from the treasury benches.
According to Singh’s address in the Lok Sabha, the Indian Armed Forces successfully neutralized over 100 terrorists during the operation. Precision strikes targeted nine terror infrastructure sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also spoke in the House, emphasizing the diplomatic initiatives that secured international backing and understanding for India's actions.
