Chennai, May 22 (NationPress) In an ongoing effort against drug trafficking, the Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU), in collaboration with the Nungambakkam police, apprehended two additional suspects linked to a methamphetamine smuggling operation.
The pair had been evading authorities since early April and were located in a hideaway in Bengaluru. The arrested individuals have been recognized as Suneesh (32) and Nikhil (32), both hailing from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Their capture comes after critical information was gathered from four suspects previously detained in Chennai on April 2.
Utilizing leads from the interrogations of the earlier detainees, a dedicated team successfully tracked Suneesh and Nikhil to their location in Bengaluru.
During the operation, authorities confiscated 10.5 grams of methamphetamine, a mobile phone, and a tablet from the suspects. They were then transported back to Chennai and presented before a magistrate on Thursday.
The court has placed both individuals in judicial custody. This action is part of a broader investigation that initiated in early April when the ANIU, guided by the Triplicane Deputy Commissioner’s Special Task Force, along with the Nungambakkam police, executed surveillance operations near College Lane opposite the Directorate of Physical Instruction (DPI).
The earlier operation resulted in the arrest of four men accused of distributing methamphetamine in the area.
Sources indicate that the group had established a sophisticated distribution network aimed at college students and young professionals within the city.
The methamphetamine was being sold in small amounts to avoid detection by law enforcement.
Authorities suspect that the operation spans multiple states, reaching into Kerala and Karnataka. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the larger network and identify other individuals within the supply chain.
The arrests signify a notable advancement in dismantling what appears to be an escalating interstate drug trafficking organization.
Officials have reaffirmed their dedication to intensifying anti-drug initiatives in the city, warning that those engaged in drug distribution will face strict legal repercussions.
