Patna, Feb 3 (NationPress) Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary launched a verbal attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday, implying that he should immerse himself in the Ganga River to "cleanse his sins".

Choudhary made these comments ahead of Gandhi's planned visit to Patna on February 5, where he is set to honor the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Jaglal Chaudhary.

The announcement of Gandhi's visit has already stirred political tensions in the region.

Accusing the Gandhi family of a longstanding opposition to reservations, Deputy CM Choudhary stated, "If Rahul Gandhi is coming to Patna for the celebration of Jaglal Chaudhary's birth anniversary, he should first take a dip in the Ganga. His transgressions would be washed away. The public is well aware of his family's political history regarding the backward and extremely backward communities."

Gandhi's impending visit is anticipated to escalate political debates in Bihar, with various leaders commenting on his legacy and viewpoint.

Choudhary criticized three generations of the Gandhi family, asserting, "His great-grandfather Jawaharlal Nehru was against reservations. His grandmother Indira Gandhi kept the Mandal Commission file hidden away. Rahul Gandhi's father, Rajiv Gandhi, never allowed the Mandal Commission to be put into action."

He further contended that the Congress party has consistently opposed reservation policies.

"These individuals have resisted reservations from the start, and now Rahul Gandhi is engaging in politics over it. The public must recognize that his family has a history of opposing reservation," he remarked.

Deputy CM Choudhary also reminded citizens that the Mandal Commission, which advocated for reservations for Other Backward Classes (OBCs), was not enacted during Congress's tenure.

"Whether it was Indira Gandhi or Rajiv Gandhi, they persistently opposed the Mandal Commission. Jawaharlal Nehru himself did not favor implementing reservations in the country," he stated.

Choudhary's comments come just before Rahul Gandhi's visit to Patna on February 5 for the birth anniversary celebrations of freedom fighter Jaglal Chaudhary. His statements have further heightened the political climate in Bihar.
