Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, March 20 (NationPress) In a significant move, Karnataka's Home Minister, G. Parameshwara, has delegated the investigation of an alleged custodial death in Tumakuru district to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
In a press briefing in Bengaluru, HM Parameshwara stated, “The incident leading to the death occurred during an investigation on Thursday. However, the precise cause of death remains unknown. Therefore, I have mandated a CID investigation into this matter.”
When queried about the family's claims that police assault caused the death, he responded that the CID's inquiry would uncover the facts. “If the death resulted from an assault, the investigation will reveal that. The post-mortem report will also help determine the cause of death,” he emphasized.
He assured that the CID would conduct a thorough investigation and provide a detailed report. “Should the investigation find that police assault caused the death, appropriate actions will be taken against those responsible,” he remarked.
Addressing concerns regarding the recent deaths of two minors in Hubballi while filming videos, HM Parameshwara remarked, “Young people often engage in risky bike stunts and create reels for entertainment. Although we have curtailed this behavior significantly, some still manage to escape police oversight, leading to tragic outcomes.”
“We are actively monitoring such dangerous activities in Bengaluru. However, youths sometimes take to the roads early in the morning to perform these stunts, making it challenging for law enforcement to catch them. The police are also working to educate youngsters about the risks associated with such behaviors,” he added.
This incident comes after a man reportedly died in police custody at the Huliyar police station in Tumakuru district, raising tensions among local residents. Villagers have alleged that he succumbed to injuries inflicted during police assault.
The deceased man has been identified as Kantaraju (45). Police had detained six individuals suspected of playing cards at the time, and Kantaraju died while in custody. This has incited villagers to blockade the Huliyar police station, lock its gates, and protest against the authorities.
