Amaravati, June 17 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, has reacted strongly to a shocking incident where a woman was bound to a tree and brutally assaulted due to her husband's failure to repay a loan.
This incident took place on Monday in the Kuppam Assembly constituency, which is represented by the Chief Minister in his home district of Chittoor.
On Tuesday, the Chief Minister instructed the police to implement strict measures against those responsible for the inhumane treatment of a woman in Narayanapuram village of Kuppam mandal.
He communicated with the Superintendent of Police in Chittoor, who confirmed that arrests had been made.
The woman was reportedly tied to a tree and subjected to humiliation because her husband, Thimmarayappa, defaulted on a loan from a man named Munikannappa.
Overwhelmed by debt, Thimmarayappa is said to have left the village. Subsequently, Munikannappa and his family confronted Thimmarayappa's wife regarding the unpaid loan and tied her to a tree.
CM Chandrababu Naidu demanded harsh penalties against Munikannappa and his relatives for their cruel actions towards the victim.
On Monday, police apprehended Munikappa, his wife Munemma, along with their son Raja and daughter-in-law Jagadeswari.
CM Naidu instructed law enforcement to ensure that such incidents do not happen again. He also urged district officials to provide all necessary support to the victim's family.
Reports indicate that Thimmarayappa had borrowed Rs 80,000 from Munikannappa. Unable to repay, he left the village, and his wife, Sirisha, was staying at her parents' home in Kenchanaballa village while working as a daily laborer in Bengaluru to support her son.
On Monday, Sirisha visited Narayanapuram to collect her son's transfer certificate from the local school. Upon her arrival, Munikannappa and his relatives confronted her over the loan, subsequently tying her to a tree and assaulting her in front of her child.
Upon receiving the distress call, police swiftly arrived at the scene and rescued Sirisha. Following her complaint, a case was filed under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The police arrested Munikappa, who is reported to be affiliated with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), along with his wife and others.
A video of the incident circulated widely on social media, showing Munemma striking and hitting Sirisha, despite efforts from villagers to intervene.
