New Delhi, June 17 (NationPress) The Indian National Congress finds itself embroiled in yet another scandal as its youth wing account, ‘India With Congress’ (@UWCforYouth), posted on X alleging that “73 Indian nationals were arrested by Iran for espionage on behalf of Israel.”
The tweet, which labeled Israel a “terrorist state” and used the hashtag #IranIsraelWar, sparked immediate backlash from BJP leader Amit Malviya.
Accompanied by an image featuring the bold title: “BREAKING: 73 Indians Arrested in Iran on Charges of Espionage and Aiding Israel,” the post was stamped with “FAKE” in red, further amplifying the controversy.
The tweet additionally included hashtags that targeted Israel and accused the Indian government of failing on the international stage, heightening political tensions.
Amit Malviya, who oversees the BJP's National Information & Technology Department, criticized the Congress party for its irresponsible approach, particularly regarding national security and foreign relations.
“This is what Rahul Gandhi’s weak and aimless leadership has reduced the Congress to — a party led by inept individuals with no accomplishments and zero credibility, given responsibilities they clearly don’t merit,”
he remarked on X, sharing the Congress post.
“Congress' desperation knows no limits,” the tweet continued, “In less than 24 hours, they have twice resorted to disseminating Fake News from their official channels. First, they blatantly misrepresented the caste census. Now, they are spreading misinformation regarding the critical Iran-Israel situation.”
The timing of this tweet is particularly sensitive given the rising tensions between Iran and Israel, along with India’s diplomatic efforts to protect its citizens in the area.
Notably, Congress leader Pawan Khera previously urged the Indian government to take immediate action to ensure the safe return of Indians stranded in Iran.
“We have been voicing this concern for the last three days. Many of our students from Kashmir are there. We have been urging the government to wake up and understand that merely issuing advisories isn’t sufficient,” Khera stated during an interview with IANS.
“The government must facilitate the safe return of Indians from that region,” he added.
