Patna, Oct 3 (NationPress) Bihar's Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday disbursed Rs 10,000 to each of 25 lakh women beneficiaries as part of the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana.
The funds were transferred through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) during an event at the CM's official residence, 1 Anne Marg, where he engaged with beneficiaries via video conferencing.
With this latest disbursement, a cumulative total of one crore women in Bihar have benefited from this initiative.
The scheme, which was unveiled on August 29, was put into action within a month.
On September 26, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially inaugurated the scheme and transferred the initial funds to 75 lakh women.
“The remaining beneficiaries will receive their funds on October 6. Additionally, the Bihar government will offer up to Rs 2 lakh in extra support for successful business ventures. This micro-investment will significantly benefit families,” Nitish Kumar stated during his address.
Highlighting the government’s initiatives for women's empowerment, Kumar remarked, “Since the NDA government took office in Bihar in 2005, we have prioritized women's upliftment. In 2006, we implemented 50 percent reservation for women in Panchayati Raj institutions, followed by urban local bodies in 2007, and reserved 35 percent of government jobs for women. The number of Jeevika Didis has now reached 1.40 crore in the state.”
Taking a jab at the opposition, Kumar added, “The previous RJD government failed to take action for Bihar, particularly regarding women's welfare. The difference is evident now. It is the NDA government that has launched welfare initiatives for women, with robust support from the Centre, propelling Bihar’s progress.”
The Chief Minister also stated that if the NDA secures victory in the upcoming Assembly elections, Bihar will continue to thrive.
Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Cabinet Minister Shrawan Kumar, and senior officials attended the event.
