Seoul, Oct 3 (NationPress) The South Korean government announced on Friday its commitment to expedite the restoration of online government services disrupted by the recent fire at the state data management agency, coinciding with the prolonged Chuseok holiday.
Interior Minister Yun Ho-jung made this declaration during a government assembly, highlighting that the restoration rate for the 647 services was only 17.8 percent, a week following the incident at the National Information Resources Service (NIRS) in Daejeon, located approximately 140 kilometers south of Seoul. This fire resulted in a significant systems outage, as reported by the Yonhap News Agency.
"The government is determined to accelerate the recovery process, viewing the seven-day holiday as a critical period for restoration," he stated during a meeting of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters. "We are committed to ensuring there are no disruptions in administrative services and safety management during this holiday."
The seven-day holiday, which includes Chuseok, National Foundation Day, and Hangeul Day, commenced on Friday and will continue until next Thursday.
Yun mentioned that the government is currently collaborating with the presidential office and financial authorities to secure reserve funding for the restoration of NIRS and the relocation of compromised systems to a branch in Daegu, located in the southeastern region.
"Restoring the affected computer networks will take time," he added. "We aim to prioritize key systems that directly impact the daily lives of citizens and develop specific management plans for them."
As of Thursday, the government reported that a total of 112 online government services have been restored following the outage caused by last week's fire at the state data management agency.
By noon, the restoration rate was at 17.3 percent after 112 of the 647 services impacted by last week's fire at the NIRS in Daejeon were back online, according to their reports.
