Hyderabad, June 6, 2026: The Chief Minister's Office of Telangana announced that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy laid the foundation stone for an international integrated fruit market at Abdullapurmet and Koheda in Ranga Reddy district, to be built under the Agriculture Department at a cost of Rs 2,300 crore across 240 acres. The project is aimed at serving the rapidly expanding population inside the Hyderabad Outer Ring Road (ORR), which the Chief Minister cited as standing at 1.34 crore.

Context

Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony, CM Revanth Reddy said the market would be built with 'world-class facilities so that people from all corners of the state can find everything they need in one place.' He expressed confidence that the facility would earn international recognition comparable to that of Shamshabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport after completion.

Ministers Tummala Nageshwar Rao, Damodar Rajanarasimha, and Seethakka Ponguleti attended the ceremony along with several elected representatives. The Chief Minister also laid the foundation for a cluster of integrated Sub-Registrar office buildings at the same site.

Policy Backdrop

Ranga Reddy district was historically a major supplier of fruits, vegetables, and dairy to Hyderabad. The Chief Minister recalled that '30 to 40 years ago, Ranga Reddy district thrived on horticulture and vegetable farming,' but noted that rapid real estate expansion had severely curtailed agricultural activity, forcing the region to import produce from neighbouring states.

He said farmers in the district had been reduced to growing only four or five crops — rice, maize, jowar, and cotton — placing enormous pressure on consumers through soaring vegetable prices. The new market is intended to incentivise farmers to diversify into alternative crops and restore the district's agri-supply role for the metropolitan region.

The integrated market is being developed under the Agriculture Department of Telangana. The state has previously invested in farmer-support frameworks, including direct investment assistance schemes for districts including Ranga Reddy, as part of a broader push to sustain agricultural livelihoods alongside urban growth.

Stakeholders and Impact

The Chief Minister directed ministers to ensure construction work begins by December and pledged that funding would be released through a 'green channel' to avoid any financial bottlenecks. He said the project would be fully developed within the next two years.

On the Sub-Registrar office complex, CM Revanth Reddy noted that the Registration Department generates between Rs 15,000 crore and Rs 16,000 crore in annual revenue for the government, yet citizens visiting registration offices often cannot find even a chair to sit on. He said the new complex would consolidate Hyderabad's 39 Sub-Registrar offices into 12 clusters built to international standards.

The Chief Minister also referenced the #BharatFutureCity initiative, stating that the government is working to attract Fortune 500 companies to the region while rejecting polluting industries that would harm residents' quality of life. He cited ongoing plans for the Regional Ring Road, radial roads, and Metro expansion as part of a comprehensive urban development vision.

CM Revanth Reddy stated clearly: 'Development in Ranga Reddy district means development in the entire state. Our goal is to make the farmer a king.' The government has committed to completing the Koheda fruit market without funding gaps, with green-channel budget releases earmarked for the project.

The construction timeline, promised December work-start, and the rollout of the 12-cluster Sub-Registrar office network will be closely watched as indicators of the state's ability to deliver large-scale agri-infrastructure alongside administrative modernisation in the run-up to the next legislative budget cycle.
