Chennai, Sep 14 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and DMK leader M.K. Stalin has proclaimed that the forthcoming 'Mupperum Vizha' in Karur on September 17 will serve as a symbol of unity and determination. This event is set to showcase the party's commitment to achieving victory in the 2026 Assembly elections while addressing the dual challenges posed by the BJP and the AIADMK.
In a communication to party members, CM Stalin described the gathering as a pivotal moment to reaffirm dedication to the Dravidian movement and to highlight the organizational strength of the DMK in anticipation of the elections.
He criticized the BJP-led Union government for infringing upon Tamil Nadu’s rights through unjust parliamentary seat delimitation, voter list manipulation, and the enforcement of NEET, while also accusing the AIADMK of being subservient to the Centre.
The annual Mupperum Vizha commemorates the birth anniversaries of social reformer Periyar E.V. Ramasamy and former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai, along with the establishment of the DMK in September 1949.
Initiated by the late Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, this three-day celebration typically includes debates, poetry sessions, and public meetings, along with honoring senior party officials with awards named after influential party figures.
This year's festivities will take place on the Karur bypass road at Kodangipatti, with comprehensive arrangements coordinated by Minister V. Senthilbalaji. The event will kick off at 5 p.m. on September 17 and will be presided over by General Secretary and senior Minister Duraimurugan.
Party treasurer T.R. Baalu, principal secretary and Municipal Administration Minister K.N. Nehru, along with deputy general secretaries, will offer congratulatory speeches. This year’s awards will include the Periyar Award for MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, the Anna Award for veteran leader Subha Seetharaman, and the Kalaignar Award for centenarian and former MLA S.M. Ramachandran.
Additional honors will feature the Bharathidasan, Perasiriyar K. Anbalagan, and M.K. Stalin awards.
A new award category, the inaugural 'Murasoli' Selvam Journalism Award, will be presented to senior journalist A.S. Panneerselvan.
CM Stalin also called on party members to assemble throughout Tamil Nadu on September 15, the birthday of Annadurai, to vow to protect the state's rights. He emphasized Tamil Nadu’s swift economic growth and investment influx under the 'Dravidian Model' government as major accomplishments to leverage in the electoral campaign.
