Chennai, Oct 21 (NationPress) Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday laid floral tributes at the Police Memorial situated within the DGP headquarters in Chennai, commemorating the courage and sacrifice of police personnel who gave their lives in the line of duty.

Every year on October 21, Police Commemoration Day is observed throughout India to pay tribute to the valor of ten Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) members who were killed in an ambush by Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Ladakh on October 21, 1959.

This ambush occurred at a height of 16,000 feet, where the soldiers displayed exceptional bravery before being martyred.

Since that day, this occasion has become a time to remember their ultimate sacrifice and to honor all police officers who have lost their lives serving the nation.

During the ceremony, Chief Minister Stalin placed a wreath at the memorial to show respect for these fallen heroes.

Additionally, he planted a sapling in the DGP office area as part of the commemoration activities. Following this, he handed out appointment letters to individuals who were recruited into the Tamil Nadu Police on compassionate grounds, highlighting the government's ongoing support for families of dedicated service members.

Earlier that morning, Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP) G. Venkitraman initiated the commemoration by offering floral tributes at the same memorial.

Former West Bengal Governor and former National Security Adviser M.K. Narayanan also honored the fallen heroes by placing a wreath.

This poignant ceremony was attended by senior police officials, retired officers, and families of police martyrs, serving as a reminder of the courage and selfless service of the police force in upholding law and order, safeguarding citizens, and maintaining national security, even under the most challenging conditions.
