Coimbatore, Oct 9 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M.K. Stalin, officially opened the much-anticipated 10.1-kilometre Avinashi Road Elevated Corridor on Thursday, marking it as the longest flyover in the state and the third-largest in India.

This flyover, named in honor of industrial visionary G.D. Naidu, is set to significantly alleviate traffic congestion on one of Coimbatore's busiest routes, stretching between Goldwins and Uppilipalayam.

With an investment of Rs 228 crore, the project involved the acquisition of approximately 4.9 acres of land.

Construction commenced in 2020 to mitigate severe traffic delays on Avinashi Road, a key connector to Coimbatore International Airport.

The route, infamous for taking over 45 minutes to navigate just 10 km during peak traffic, can now be traversed in under 10 minutes thanks to this new elevated corridor.

Featuring a combination of six-lane and four-lane sections, this 10-lane flyover spans major junctions including Airport, Codissia, Hope College, Nava India, Lakshmi Mills, and Anna Statue.

The structure also integrates a railway crossing, effectively resolving one of the area's most notorious traffic bottlenecks.

Additionally, the project includes four boarding and alighting platforms located at Coimbatore Airport, Hope College, Nava India, and Anna Statue, facilitating local access.

Notably, this is the first flyover in Tamil Nadu equipped with a comprehensive rainwater harvesting system along its entire length.

World-class amenities such as reinforced safety barriers, roller shutters, and modern lighting systems have been included for improved visibility and security.

With nearly all construction complete—save for minor finishing touches at the Anna Statue ramp and associated drainage lines—the flyover has officially opened to the public.

The inauguration ceremony featured an enchanting display of decorative lighting as Chief Minister Stalin walked and drove across the flyover for inspection.

Public Works Minister E.V. Velu closely monitored the project's progress, ensuring the Chief Minister's directive for priority completion was achieved.

The Avinashi Road flyover is poised to become a new urban landmark, enhancing connectivity within Coimbatore and enabling quicker travel to Salem, Erode, Tiruppur, and Avinashi.
