CM Vijay's first Tamil Nadu Cabinet: 9 ministers, veteran faces and new blood

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Sunday, 10 May unveiled a nine-member Cabinet shortly after taking oath as the state's new Chief Minister, fielding a mix of veteran politicians, former bureaucrats, first-time legislators, and digital-age strategists. The first-ever Cabinet of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government signals Vijay's intent to balance governance experience with a new political generation following the party's landmark victory over the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in the Assembly elections.

Veteran Anchor: K.A. Sengottaiyan

The most experienced figure in the Cabinet is K.A. Sengottaiyan, a 10-time legislator whose political career spans five decades. Sengottaiyan first entered the Tamil Nadu Assembly in 1977 during the rise of M.G. Ramachandran's All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) government, later becoming a close associate of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa and handling major portfolios including Revenue and School Education. He was expelled from the AIADMK in 2025 following differences with party General Secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, before joining Vijay's TVK.
