Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 8 (NationPress) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has finally addressed the ongoing Sabarimala gold plating issue, labeling the Opposition’s protests in the Legislative Assembly as "excessive". He praised the Speaker for effectively managing the situation.

In his first remarks regarding the matter, CM Vijayan highlighted that while various protests have occurred in the Assembly, the act of covering the Speaker’s face was unprecedented.

“I commend the Speaker’s dedication to fostering consensus. During our discussions, the Treasury benches engaged to facilitate dialogue,” he stated.

The Chief Minister pointed out that the Opposition was uncooperative when the Speaker’s office attempted to facilitate coordination.

He assured that any valid request from the Opposition would be considered, affirming that the government is prepared to address all factual matters.

Regarding the gold-plating controversy, CM Vijayan accused the Opposition of fear-mongering and attempting to divert attention.

“The government has nothing to fear. Inspections by the High Court are ongoing, and we have never protected anyone guilty, nor will we. The Special Investigation Team is examining the situation, and strict actions will ensue,” he declared.

The Chief Minister also condemned the manner in which protests were conducted in the House.

“A respected member of the Opposition seemed ready to leap over the bench to disrupt proceedings. Our Watch and Ward staff are individuals too; why protest against those fulfilling their duties? Some protests even targeted women MLAs. Such conduct is completely unacceptable,” he noted.

For the third consecutive day, heavy protests dominated the Assembly, prompting the Speaker to temporarily adjourn proceedings before they resumed shortly after.

The gold plating issue continues to be at the forefront of legislative and public discussions, creating significant tension between the government and the Opposition. With the Assembly session concluding on Thursday, the Opposition has announced a state-wide protest demanding the resignation of Devasom Minister V.N. Vasavan.
