On the eve of Independence Day, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Shri Ayodhya Dham on Friday, 14 August 2026, seeking the blessings of Prabhu Shri Ram Lala and offering prayers for public welfare — a visit that underscores Uttar Pradesh's deepening institutional bond with the sacred city.

The Chief Minister's Office shared the visit alongside a Sanskrit shloka from the Ram Stuti: 'Lokabhiramam ranarangadhiram, rajeevanetra raghuvanshanatham. Karunyaroopam karunaakaram tam, Shri Ramachandram sharanam prapadye' — ('I take refuge in Shri Ramachandra, beloved of the world, valiant in battle, lotus-eyed, lord of the Raghu dynasty, the very form of compassion, the bestower of grace.')

Ayodhya's rise as UP's spiritual and political centrepiece

Ayodhya, the ancient city in Uttar Pradesh revered as the birthplace of Lord Rama, has been at the centre of the state government's agenda since the landmark January 2024 consecration of the Ram Mandir, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the pran pratishtha ceremony following decades of legal and political contest. Since that moment, Ayodhya has transformed from a contested heritage site into a flagship pilgrimage and tourism destination.

Under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who has held office since 2017, the Uttar Pradesh government has channelled sustained official attention toward major Hindu pilgrimage centres, with Ayodhya receiving the most prominent focus. Infrastructure upgrades, airport development, and riverfront beautification have all accompanied the temple's rise.

Prayers for 'lok kalyan' — the welfare of the people

The CM's Office described the visit as one of darshan — a sacred sighting — and prayer hetu lok kalyan, meaning 'for the welfare of the people.' The framing is deliberate: a sitting chief minister seeking divine sanction for governance is a well-established tradition in Indian public life, and with Independence Day falling the following morning, the timing carries additional symbolic weight.
