New Delhi, Jan 29 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, made an urgent appeal on Wednesday to the devotees participating in the Maha Kumbh to adhere to the guidelines, assist the administration, and disregard any rumours.
In his announcement, CM Yogi urged devotees to bathe at the designated Ganga ghats nearest to them instead of attempting to reach the 'Sangam Nose' area.
“There are numerous ghats available for bathing. Please avoid overcrowding and pay attention to the directives of the administration. Your cooperation is vital for maintaining order and safety,” he stated.
He emphasized to the devotees the importance of ignoring any rumours.
In the appeal shared on the social media platform X, the CM wrote: “Take bath at the ghat of Mother Ganga near which you are, do not try to go towards Sangam Nose. All of you should follow the instructions of the administration and cooperate in making arrangements. People are bathing peacefully at all the ghats of Sangam. Do not pay any attention to any rumours.”
Previously, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to him regarding the situation following a stampede-like occurrence in the Kumbh area.
The Prime Minister called for immediate support measures.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also had a conversation with the Chief Minister, reassuring him of full support from the Centre.
Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda discussed the stampede-like situation with Yogi Adityanath regarding the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj on Wednesday and promised comprehensive support, including volunteers and health services, to effectively manage the situation.
The Crowd Diversion Plan was enacted at the Maha Kumbh, and the entry of devotees was halted. Groups of devotees were stopped on the city outskirts.
A stampede-like situation emerged at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj during the early hours of Wednesday, just ahead of the 'Amrit Snan' on 'Mauni Amavasya'.
As per officials, a large influx of pilgrims arrived for a holy bath on Mauni Amavasya, leading to a stampede-like scenario and resulting in numerous injuries.
Reports indicate that at least 30 women have sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at the central hospital set up in the Mela area.
The Uttar Pradesh government anticipated 10 crore pilgrims to participate in the Maha Kumbh in a single day and had heightened security measures in preparation for the 'Amrit Snan'.
The incident occurred as millions of devotees gathered for the sacred dip, compelling the Akharas to temporarily suspend the event.
The chaos materialized about a kilometre from the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers, when barricades collapsed, inciting panic among the crowd.
The surge of people caused several women to faint, leading to a stampede-like situation. The injured were promptly transported to a nearby hospital located within the Maha Kumbh fairgrounds. Some of the more severely injured were moved to Bailey Hospital and Swaroop Rani Medical College for treatment.
The Amrit Snan on Mauni Amavasya holds significant spiritual importance, especially this year due to the rare 'Triveni Yog' celestial alignment, which occurs only once every 144 years. This alignment has enhanced the fervour and devotion of the millions who gathered for the ritual.
