New Delhi, Sep 26 (NationPress) Coal public sector undertakings (PSUs) have declared a performance-linked reward (PLR) of Rs 1,03,000 for each non-executive worker, as stated in an official announcement on Friday.

This reward is set to benefit around 2.1 lakh non-executive cadre employees of Coal India Ltd and its subsidiaries, in addition to approximately 38,000 non-executive workers at Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL), according to the statement.

The financial implications of this decision amount to Rs 2,153.82 crore for Coal India Ltd and Rs 380 crore for SCCL.

The government has indicated that these payments will be made on a pro rata basis, reflecting attendance. This reward was announced following the sixth meeting of the standardisation committee of the Joint Bipartite Committee for the Coal Industry.

The coal ministry expressed its intention to acknowledge the contributions and hard work of non-executive workers across all CIL subsidiaries and SCCL, ensuring they receive fair compensation for their efforts.

Providing this PLR serves as a timely support for the workers and their families during the festive season, the statement added.

This Performance-Linked Reward emphasizes the dedication of CIL and the Ministry of Coal towards worker welfare, motivation, and recognizing contractor contributions.

Through the provision of the PLR, CIL aspires to enhance productivity, morale, and job satisfaction among non-executive workers, who are essential to the company's mining operations and play a significant role in fostering an Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

Recent GST reforms have abolished the Rs 400 per tonne compensation cess that was previously applied to coal, while the GST rate on coal has been increased from 5 percent to 18 percent.

The coal ministry previously noted that despite the increase in GST rates, the overall effect of these reforms results in a lower tax burden for end consumers, alongside a correction of the inverted duty structure that enhances liquidity, removes distortions, and prevents significant accounting losses for coal producers.
