Advocate Ujjval Bhasin has filed a formal complaint with Chandigarh Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kanwardeep Kaur against former cricketer Yograj Singh — father of Yuvraj Singh — over allegedly derogatory remarks against women made in the web series 'Lukkhe', which premiered on 8 May 2025. The complaint was registered on 14 May, and Bhasin has warned he will approach the courts if police fail to act.

What the Complaint Alleges

According to advocate Bhasin, Yograj Singh's statements in the series are directed at women who go out to work and return home to manage household responsibilities. 'His statements are pointed towards women who go out to work and then cook food for the family after returning home. The mothers, sisters, wives, daughters, all of them take care of the family,' Bhasin said. He described the remarks as 'objectionable' and unexpected from a public figure of Yograj Singh's stature.

Bhasin noted that the complaint also flags an additional concern: actors in the web series are shown wearing the Chandigarh Police uniform. A character named Gurbani Kaur in the series reportedly wears the uniform — a detail the advocate found particularly sensitive, given that 'Gurbani' is a sacred term in Sikhism, referring to compositions in the Guru Granth Sahib. 'The word is pronounced with immense respect,' Bhasin said.

Demands and Next Steps

Bhasin has appealed to the Women's Commission to take suo motu cognisance of the matter, arguing that the remarks target not just women in Chandigarh but working women across the country. He has also called for an FIR to be lodged against the makers of 'Lukkhe' and demanded that streaming of the series be stopped. As of the time of filing, Bhasin confirmed he had not yet received any response from the police department.

Expressing confidence in SSP Kanwardeep Kaur — who has reportedly been granted a one-year service extension — Bhasin said: 'I believe that once she listens to the remark, she will immediately take action on it because from the video it is clear that the statement is meant against a woman who is wearing a police uniform.'

Yograj Singh's Appeal

Separately, Yograj Singh himself has reportedly appealed for the streaming of 'Lukkhe' to be halted, according to reports. The series, which is currently available to stream online, has drawn scrutiny since its release on 8 May 2025.

This is not the first time Yograj Singh has courted controversy with public statements. The former Punjab cricketer has previously made remarks that drew criticism, though this complaint marks a formal legal escalation. Bhasin warned that Yograj Singh's reputation as a cricket coach and mentor could suffer: 'Youngsters will also stop coming to him for coaching. Their mothers won't send them to him after listening to the remark.' The case underscores growing scrutiny of content on streaming platforms and the use of police uniforms in fictional productions.
