Ahmedabad, Jan 21 (NationPress) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress have both leveled allegations against the BJP, claiming that the party is orchestrating widespread voter deletions during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Gujarat.
Both opposition factions asserted that numerous false applications are being submitted in a synchronized effort to disenfranchise voters.
At a press conference held here on Wednesday, AAP Gujarat president Isudan Gadhvi accused the SIR process of being misappropriated to eliminate voters' names, despite the completion of a door-to-door verification.
He claimed that more than nine lakh applications for deletions had been filed, allegedly by BJP operatives, labeling this sudden increase as “highly suspicious.”
Gadhvi suggested that this initiative is designed to undermine democracy by selectively targeting voters who are believed to support opposition parties.
Using Jamkhambhaliya as a case in point, he asserted that about 15,000 applications had been submitted to cancel voter registrations in that constituency, which he claimed is part of a larger scheme to eliminate nearly 10,000 votes across various Assembly segments.
He went on to allege that as many as 72 lakh voters have already been removed from the electoral rolls.
AAP also disclosed what it referred to as an audio recording to back its accusations, asserting that no Form-7 application had been submitted by a woman named Dipaliben, contrary to official documentation.
In dialogue with IANS, Gadhvi stated that the party had discovered at least 100 instances of purportedly fraudulent deletion requests and plans to present its findings to the Election Commission.
“We will visit all 182 Assembly constituencies to personally verify these voter deletion applications,” he stated.
He cautioned that legal measures would be initiated – from the electoral registration officer level up to the district collector – and the Supreme Court would be approached if necessary, should even a single voter be wrongfully removed.
He also called for police action against individuals filing false applications and officials allegedly acting under political pressure, while urging the Election Commission to maintain impartiality.
In a similar vein, Amit Chavda, president of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee, alleged that close to 10 lakh false Form-7 applications had been submitted as part of a “planned conspiracy” to strip voters of their constitutional rights.
“Form-7 submissions were minimal until January 15, but surged between January 16 and 18. The Election Commission must provide district-wise data and CCTV footage that reveals who submitted these applications,” Chavda asserted.
He emphasized that the Congress would not permit even a single voter to be disenfranchised and announced statewide protests, including gheraos of collector offices, along with necessary legal actions.
