Nagpur, Feb 27 (NationPress) The assault of a 26-year-old woman on a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus in Pune has ignited intense political outrage, with Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar on Thursday accusing the state administration of a complete breakdown of law and order.

In a statement to IANS, Wadettiwar condemned the incident that occurred at Swargate Depot in Pune, emphasizing grave concerns regarding the safety of women in the state.

"This dreadful incident at Swargate brings up critical questions regarding the effectiveness of the police. Law and order have utterly collapsed in Maharashtra. We had proposed the 'Shakti Bill,' which we drafted to guarantee women's safety, but it remains unenforced," he stated.

Wadettiwar further lambasted the government’s lack of action, highlighting that such crimes are occurring far too often.

"The Maharashtra government is in such chaos that no one is aware of who is in charge. I believe that having just one Chief Minister is insufficient—Maharashtra requires at least three Chief Ministers to operate effectively," he added.

In the meantime, the Pune city police have announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for information leading to the arrest of Dattatraya Ramdas Gade, the 37-year-old individual charged with raping a woman aboard an MSRTC bus parked at the Swargate depot on February 25.

The police also shared the photograph of Gade, a resident of Gunat village in Shirur taluka, who has previously been accused of robbery and theft by the Pune Rural police.

Wadettiwar also criticized Ramdas Athawale’s recent comments suggesting that Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge did not bathe at the Maha Kumbh.

"Since when did Ramdas Athawale identify as a Hindu? Has he converted from Buddhism? It appears he is forsaking Baba Saheb Ambedkar’s principles and is on the path to becoming a fakir," he concluded.
