New Delhi, June 1 (NationPress) - The Congress party has vehemently criticized the heinous rape and murder of a nine-year-old girl in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, which is currently governed by the NDA. The party pointed fingers at the political environment that allows criminals to operate with impunity.
According to Congress, the perpetrator of this tragic incident was a known serial offender who had been permitted to remain free by local authorities. Shama Mohamed, a spokesperson for the party, stated, “Criminals feel increasingly emboldened as the JD-U-BJP government has let influential individuals escape justice despite serious allegations against them.”
During a press briefing at the AICC office, alongside MP Ranjeet Ranjan, Mohamed revealed that after the brutal assault on May 26, the victim was abandoned near a brick kiln.
Ranjan added that the girl was initially taken to a Muzaffarpur hospital, but due to her worsening condition, she was referred to AIIMS, Patna. Unfortunately, she was turned away due to summer vacation and the lack of necessary specialists.
After being denied treatment at Patna Medical College and Hospital for nearly five hours, it was only when Bihar state Congress president Rajesh Kumar intervened that she was finally admitted. Tragically, it was too late, and she succumbed to her injuries.
Ranjan emphasized that timely medical intervention could have saved the girl's life and attributed the responsibility for her rape and subsequent medical negligence directly to the JDU-BJP government.
Shama Mohamed highlighted the unfortunate reality that the victim was from the Dalit community, suggesting that her background contributed to her being denied appropriate medical care at a prestigious institution like AIIMS.
Even after her referral to Patna Medical College and Hospital, she was left waiting in an ambulance for hours, underscoring a systemic issue in Bihar’s treatment of women. Mohamed remarked that this incident is one of many atrocities against women in the state, referencing several similar cases in the past.
