New Delhi, Feb 14 (NationPress) Following the announcement by US President Donald Trump regarding the sale of F-35 stealth fighter jets to India, Congress MP Tariq Anwar expressed criticism of the decision, asserting that the primary objective of the US is to secure as many lucrative agreements as possible with India, devoid of any genuine respect for the nation.

In a conversation with IANS, Anwar stated, "The fundamental purpose of the relationship between the United States and India is evident: to finalize numerous deals aimed at maximizing profits. As for demonstrating respect or honor towards India, we have experienced firsthand how the US government has treated Indian nationals in recent times."

Anwar also commented on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks regarding India’s position on illegal immigrants, especially those currently in the US. PM Modi indicated that India would facilitate the return of citizens living illegally in the United States and noted that anyone who enters a country unlawfully lacks the right to remain there.

"It appears that the Prime Minister may not fully grasp the significance of human rights," Anwar noted.

"Human rights constitute a crucial aspect of our global duties, yet they appear to be disregarded in relation to specific policies," he added.

The Congress member also discussed US President Trump’s confirmation of the approval to extradite Tahawwur Rana, a significant figure in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, to India. This decision was made shortly after Trump’s discussions with PM Modi.

“If such individuals are extradited to India, it will certainly enhance our judicial system and the court process,” Anwar asserted, underlining the necessity for justice to be served.

He further criticized Trump’s assertion that PM Modi is "a much tougher and better negotiator" than himself.

He questioned the Prime Minister's negotiation prowess, stating, “A negotiator cannot be considered proficient if they fail to protect their own citizens or uphold their dignity. An effective negotiator must be capable of safeguarding their people’s interests.”

PM Modi recently completed his high-level visit to the United States, where he had extensive bilateral discussions with President Trump on critical matters, including trade, defense, technology, energy, security, and cultural exchanges.

After his engagements in the US, PM Modi, who had traveled from France, returned to India shortly after his talks with President Trump. These bilateral discussions marked the first since the commencement of Trump’s second term in office last month, symbolizing a new phase in US-India relations.
