Hyderabad, Aug 6 (NationPress) Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, on Wednesday accused the Congress party of organizing a dharna in New Delhi aimed at securing Muslim reservation rather than advocating for Backward Class reservation.
The Congress party, led by Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, is conducting a dharna at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Wednesday to press for Presidential approval for two Bills passed by the Assembly that seek to allocate 42 percent reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) in education, employment, and local governance.
Bandi Sanjay, however, contended that the Congress government is scheming to increase BC reservation by merely 5 percent while offering 10 percent reservation to Muslims.
He asserted that the Congress was maneuvering to grant 100 percent reservation to Muslims under the guise of supporting BCs. The Minister of State also remarked that there was no backing from BCs for the Congress party's dharna.
The BJP leader stated that should the Congress provide 42 percent reservation exclusively for BCs, the BJP would be willing to support the Bills.
He issued a challenge for a debate regarding the initiatives taken for the benefit of BCs. He questioned whether Congress ever appointed a BC leader as Prime Minister during its 50 years in power.
“For 48 years, the Congress party held power in united Andhra Pradesh. I want to know if it ever designated a BC leader as Chief Minister,” he stated.
Bandi Sanjay queried the Congress regarding the number of BCs included in the state Cabinet and the number of BCs awarded nominated positions.
“Will the Congress party clarify how many MP seats were allocated to BCs? You have no authority to lecture us on the welfare of BCs,” he asserted.
The MoS mentioned that the BJP has elevated a BC leader to the Prime Minister's position, with 27 Central ministers hailing from BCs, and highlighted that several state chief ministers are also from BCs.
He accused the Congress of evading its commitment to BC reservation by shifting the blame onto the BJP.
Bandi Sanjay predicted that the Congress party would fade away in Telangana, just as it has in Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Bihar.
