Hyderabad, Aug 5 (NationPress) The Telangana Congress faction, spearheaded by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, is set to organize a dharna in New Delhi on Wednesday, advocating for Presidential Assent for the Backward Classes reservation bills that were approved by the state legislature.
Chief Minister Reddy departed for the national capital in the afternoon.
Joining him will be Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, along with ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs, and other prominent leaders, as they gather for a day-long sit-in at Jantar Mantar. Some ministers and key figures have already made their way to the capital, with more expected to arrive by Tuesday evening.
Among those traveling to Delhi are Backward Classes Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Panchayat Raj Minister Seetakka, several MLAs, and representatives of BC organizations.
Minister Prabhakar informed reporters that, in line with the commitment made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to establish Telangana as a model for social justice, the state government has conducted a caste survey.
As a result of the survey, two bills were formulated and passed by the state legislature, aimed at increasing BC reservation in education, employment, and local governance to 42 percent.
Minister Prabhakar mentioned that although the bills were forwarded to the Centre in March, they are still awaiting Presidential assent.
He pointed out that while the BJP supported the bills during assembly discussions, it has since been obstructing them in Delhi under the pretext of Muslim considerations.
Prabhakar reiterated his invitation to leaders from all political factions and those who advocate for social justice to join the protest in Delhi.
AICC in-charge of state affairs, Meenakshi Natarajan, and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud were among the leaders who traveled on a special train on Monday.
According to Congress sources, 25 leaders from each district have departed for the national capital.
The Congress party has announced a three-day protest in Delhi to push for Presidential assent for the two bills passed in March, which aim to enhance BC reservation to 42 percent in education, employment, and local governance.
On Tuesday, Congress MPs from the state submitted a notice for an adjournment motion in Parliament, demanding a debate on the BC quota bills.
After the dharna, the Chief Minister and senior leaders plan to seek an appointment with President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday to present a memorandum regarding the pending bills.
Prominent opposition figures, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, are also expected to request an audience with the President on this matter.
