Congress MP Submits Suspension of Business Notice in RS Regarding Ajmer Sharif Dargah Petition

New Delhi, Dec 2 (NationPress) Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi submitted a Suspension of Business notice in the Rajya Sabha on the topic of the Ajmer Sharif Dargah petition, while also referencing the recent violence that occurred in Sambal, Uttar Pradesh.
The MP initiated the notice under Rule 267 (Notice of Motion for Suspension of rules) of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Council of States (Rajya Sabha), stating, "This House should suspend Zero Hour and the applicable rules concerning Question Hour and other planned business to discuss the recent public discourse related to the Ajmer Sharif Dargah in Rajasthan."
He emphasized that the Ajmer Sharif Dargah represents a vital part of India's diverse culture and heritage. "However, a recent petition challenging its historical significance has caused concern among citizens. This issue arises against the backdrop of the unfortunate events in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, where violence resulted in the loss of lives and widespread turmoil," the Congress MP remarked.
In his notice, he added that such occurrences form a troubling pattern of escalating tensions that threaten social unity.
"Fostering harmony and brotherhood among all Indians, regardless of religious, linguistic, or regional differences, is not only a fundamental responsibility of every citizen but also essential for maintaining India's unity and integrity. This House must discuss the broader ramifications of these events to reaffirm its commitment to ensuring peace throughout the nation," he stated.
The petition that raised concerns from the Congress MP claims that the Ajmer Sharif Dargah was constructed over a Shiva temple. This petition was recently accepted by a court in Ajmer, which issued notices to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the Ajmer Dargah Committee, and the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs regarding the issue.
In Sambhal, violence erupted on November 24 when a survey team, following court orders, arrived at the mosque to conduct a survey. Four people lost their lives and many others were injured during the clashes. The mosque is currently at the center of a legal dispute after some petitions asserted it was built on a Hindu temple site. A local court had mandated the survey, which led to opposition from residents and escalated into severe violence.
