Mumbai, March 7 (NationPress) Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam has asserted that the financial situation of the Congress party in Mumbai has deteriorated to the point where it is unable to pay its office rent.

In conversation with IANS, Nirupam stated, “The rent for the Mumbai Congress office has been outstanding for years, accumulating to Rs 18 lakh. Additionally, the electricity bill is overdue by Rs 5 lakh, resulting in a power cut.”

He also claimed that the power distributor has removed the office's electricity meter due to the unpaid bills.

Nirupam, who previously served as the Mumbai Congress chief, compared the current circumstances with his time in office. “During my four years as President of Mumbai Congress, we never faced such difficulties. The monthly expenses, which included rent, electricity, and staff salaries, totaled Rs 14 lakh. However, I have learned that Mumbai Congress employees have not received their salaries for the past 10 months,” he communicated to IANS.

Recalling a past incident, he noted, “The only financial challenge we encountered was a bloated tea vendor's bill, which we eventually resolved.”

Criticizing the party’s current leadership, Nirupam remarked, “Back then, we were in the Opposition, and I wasn’t even an MP, yet the party operated effectively. Nowadays, Congress leaders seem more interested in creating YouTube videos, and the party has become subservient to Uddhav Thackeray. The leadership is ineffective — they come and go without making a difference.”

He attributed the decline of Congress to its alliance with Thackeray’s party, Shiv Sena (UBT). “I had cautioned against delegating Congress' responsibilities to Uddhav Thackeray, but leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge and Venugopal dismissed my concerns. Now, the repercussions are clear,” he stated.

Nirupam also addressed comments made by Omar Abdullah, leader of the National Conference and Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, regarding Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK), emphasizing that it is an essential part of India and should be reclaimed.

“The Union Government is currently quite powerful and will undoubtedly recover PoK in the near future, ensuring a unified Kashmir,” Nirupam asserted. He encouraged CM Omar Abdullah to move past historical narratives and back the Union government's initiatives.

CM Abdullah had recently questioned the BJP-led NDA government's position on PoK, asking, “Who is preventing you from reclaiming it? During the Kargil War, Pakistan had attacked, presenting an opportunity to recover it. Now, take it back.”
