New Delhi, Feb 19 (NationPress) Congress General Secretary overseeing Communications Jairam Ramesh announced on Wednesday that the party's primary focus this year will be on enhancing, reforming, and revitalizing its structure.
“By the end of this year, you will witness a transformed Congress,” Jairam Ramesh stated to reporters following a comprehensive meeting of party general secretaries and state representatives.
The meeting, which lasted seven hours, was led by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and included significant figures such as Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha. At least 30 party general secretaries and in-charges participated in the session.
This marked Congress’s inaugural meeting at the newly established party headquarters, Indira Bhawan.
Jairam Ramesh indicated that from now on, all members will operate from these new office facilities.
“Today's session emphasized the importance of strengthening the party at the grassroots level. In-depth discussions took place regarding the enhancement of approximately 800 District Congress Committees nationwide,” he explained.
Furthermore, Jairam Ramesh revealed that the meeting addressed the systematic undermining of the Election Commission of India by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Concerns were raised about the manipulation of electoral rolls, which resulted in the inclusion of numerous fraudulent votes while legitimate votes were discarded, as evidenced in Haryana, Maharashtra, and Delhi.
The Congress General Secretary mentioned that the meeting underscored the responsibility of the Election Commission of India to provide political parties with voter lists in a format suitable for thorough analysis.
He asserted that the Election Commission was operating under the influence of the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister.
As a follow-up to the Belagavi Resolution passed on December 26, a year-long ‘Samvidaan Bachao Rashtriya Yatra’ (Save the Constitution National March) will commence nationwide.
Jairam Ramesh further stated that this initiative will differ from the Bharat Jodo Yatra and will take the form of a “relay yatra” where national leaders will engage at the state, district, and block levels.
Additionally, he announced that the upcoming session of the AICC will be convened in Gujarat during the first two weeks of April this year.
