Rajiv Gandhi, who served as India's Prime Minister from 1984 to 1989, took office after the assassination of his mother, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. At the young age of 40, he became India's youngest Prime Minister.

He led the nation until the general elections of 1989 and subsequently took on the role of Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Tragically, he resigned in December 1990, merely six months before he was brutally assassinated in a terrorist attack.

To commemorate this day, the Congress party posted a tribute on X, stating, "On the death anniversary of Shri Rajiv Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi paid an emotional tribute at 'Veer Bhumi'. The remarkable contributions made by Rajiv Gandhi for the nation will always be remembered."
