Contemporary Civil Servants Must Embrace Technology and Drive Change: Jagdeep Dhankhar

New Delhi, Dec 14 (NationPress) On Saturday, Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar called upon today’s civil servants to embrace technology and serve as agents of change, moving beyond conventional administrative limits.
During the 50th Foundation Day celebration of the Indian Posts and Telecommunications Accounts and Finance Service (IP&TAFS) in the national capital, Vice President Dhankhar emphasized the significance of inter-departmental collaboration in our interconnected world, highlighting the necessity of integrating artificial intelligence-driven audit systems while upholding human oversight for essential decisions.
At the occasion, Union Minister of Communications and the Development of the North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya Scindia, discussed three core pillars: stabilizing the telecom sector; empowering pensioners; and enhancing the capabilities of the workforce to keep pace with technological advancements, which have been fundamental to the success of the officers.
The minister praised their contributions to the Department of Telecommunications’ (DoT) SAMPANN pension model, which has streamlined pension disbursement for over 500,000 pensioners, and for consolidating Digital Bharat Nidhi (DBN).
Scindia asserted that the department’s mission and values of inclusivity, innovation, and security serve as the kavach that will protect every citizen of Bharat.
Since its inception in 1974, the IP&TAFS has been pivotal in shaping India’s telecommunications and postal financial sectors. The service has played a vital role in managing spectrum auctions and generating revenue through License Fees and Spectrum Usage Charges, contributing nearly Rs 25,000 crore annually to the Government of India.
This revenue is significantly directed toward supporting the government’s Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) through the Digital Bharat Nidhi, aimed at promoting digital inclusion across India’s urban and rural areas.
The SARAS portal, an initiative by IP&TAFS, has revolutionized the revenue assurance process by digitalizing and standardizing assessment methods, thereby ensuring improved accountability for the largest non-tax revenue stream to the government.
