Cooptex Pudupavu showroom in Delhi gets ₹49 lakh makeover, targets ₹2 crore sales
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Tamil Nadu's Cooptex 'Pudupavu' showroom at the State Emporia Complex, Connaught Place, New Delhi, has been comprehensively modernised at a cost of ₹49 lakh, as the state government moves to sharpen its handloom sector's footprint in the national capital. State Ministers M. Vijay Balaji (Handlooms, Textiles and Khadi) and S. Keerthana (Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce) conducted an official review of the renovated outlet on Monday, 13 July, inspecting the upgraded interiors, product displays, and customer amenities.
What the Renovation Delivered
The 1,600-square-foot showroom has been transformed into a contemporary retail space featuring premium lighting, modern display systems, and improved customer facilities — all while preserving the traditional character of Tamil Nadu's handloom heritage. The redesign is specifically aimed at attracting a wider, younger customer base in North India, signalling a deliberate shift in Cooptex's retail strategy beyond its traditional buyer profile.
Products on Offer
The New Delhi outlet stocks an extensive range including Kanchipuram, Arani, Salem, and Coimbatore silk sarees, cotton sarees, dhotis, shirts, bed linen, towels, contemporary indigo fusion apparel, and modern printed men's kurta collections. Products are also available through the official Cooptex online portal, extending the reach of the showroom beyond walk-in customers.
Sales Targets and Promotional Push
The New Delhi outlet recorded sales of ₹1.27 crore during the 2025-26 financial year. Cooptex has now set an ambitious target of ₹2 crore for 2026-27, including a Deepavali sales target of ₹65 lakh. To mark the reopening, customers will receive a promotional discount of an additional 20 per cent plus another 20 per cent for one week.
About Cooptex
Established in 1935, Cooptex is among India's largest handloom weavers' cooperative organisations and serves as the principal marketing agency for products woven by cooperative societies across Tamil Nadu. It currently operates a nationwide network of 146 retail outlets. The Ministers expressed confidence that the upgraded showroom would improve visibility for Tamil Nadu's authentic handloom products in the capital and broaden the consumer base. Senior Tamil Nadu government and Cooptex officials accompanied the Ministers during the visit.
The modernisation of the Connaught Place outlet is part of a broader push by the Tamil Nadu government to position its handloom sector competitively in key urban markets, with Delhi serving as a critical gateway to North Indian consumers.
