Patna, Dec 26 (NationPress) A sub-inspector of police was attacked on Friday while trying to mediate a conflict regarding fishing rights in the jurisdiction of the Katra police station located in Muzaffarpur district.
The injured officer has been recognized as Sub-Inspector Shrikant Singh, who is stationed at the Katra police station.
This incident took place in Basant village, where a dispute over fishing rights in a local pond had arisen.
Reportedly, the current tender for these fishing rights belongs to Jitendra Sahani, a resident of Budhkara village. Previously, the tender was held by Fahad Azam, who is now the Sarpanch of Bandhpura Panchayat.
It has been alleged that despite his tender's expiration, Sarpanch Fahad Azam and his allies were obstructing the current contractor from conducting fishing operations in the pond.
As the situation intensified, Jitendra Sahani sought police assistance.
On Friday, Sub-Inspector Shrikant Singh, along with his police team, arrived at the scene to restore order and support legal fishing activities.
Regrettably, during their efforts, the Sarpanch and his supporters allegedly became hostile and attacked the sub-inspector.
Upon receiving news of the assault, additional police forces from the Katra police station quickly arrived and managed to stabilize the situation.
The injured officer was promptly taken to a medical college hospital, where he is now receiving treatment.
Muzaffarpur's Senior Superintendent of Police, Sushil Kumar, emphasized that strict measures will be taken against anyone who takes the law into their own hands.
He mentioned that a thorough investigation has been assigned to the Deputy Superintendent of Police, and operations are underway to apprehend those involved.
“Based on available video evidence, the police have identified the suspects and filed a case against the Sarpanch and his supporters. Further legal actions are in progress,” Kumar stated.
This incident has raised significant concerns over the attacks on police officers during their official duties, and senior officials have reiterated that such behavior will not be tolerated.
